A Small Wedding Memory Box Case Study

Finn and Phoebes small but perfectly formed bespoke Wedding Memory Box beautifully captures the essence of their special day, preserving the keepsakes they cherished from their intimate Cotswolds wedding.

The couple, based in East London, reached out after discovering my work on Instagram. Having married the year before, they wanted a meaningful way to showcase their wedding mementos and felt that a bespoke Memory Box was the perfect solution.

The design process began when they sent me their collection of keepsakes. Opening the box felt like stepping into their wedding day – each item held a special memory. Since they wanted a smaller Memory Box suited to their flat, we carefully curated a selection of around 20 items, choosing those that best represented their day while keeping the composition balanced.

One common challenge with wedding keepsakes is the abundance of paper goods –stationery, place settings and comment cards – that can be quite large and visually dominant. This was the case for Finn and Phoebe, whose wedding invitation was too big to include. Luckily, the design had also been used on a smaller matchbox, which became a perfect nod to their stationery while maintaining the compact format they desired.

With the final selection made, I explored different compositions in both square and portrait formats, experimenting with various layouts. Some items were beautiful on both sizes, such as the hand-painted watercolour picture cards, so I tested different orientations to showcase the most meaningful details. We even debated whether to display the matchbox open or closed, but as we ended up including two, we opted for one of each.

The chosen arrangement had a flowing, overlapping style—something I dont often use in my artwork but found perfect for this project. This approach allowed us to layer pieces effectively, ensuring key details, such as the Vivienne Westwood logo on an envelope, remained visible while making space for additional keepsakes.

Once the couple had had time to live withthe final design and confirm they were completely happy, I set to work securing each piece in place. I particularly enjoyed the precision of positioning the matches in their box – its these little, tiny details that make all the difference.

The result? A stunning, matte-black-framed Memory Box that transports Finn and Phoebe back to their wedding day each time they look at it. A treasured keepsake for a lifetime.

"We're so delighted with the memory box that Pippa made for us. She was able to really capture the essence of our wedding day with a piece that not only looks beautiful but also feels really unique to us - we absolutely love it! She was also a joy to work with and we would have no hesitation in recommending her."
