Frequently Asked Questions
Here is some additional information of question I commonly get asked by clients. If your question hasn't been answered here, please drop me an email and I will answer your query.
MEMORY BOX COMMISSIONS
I have made Memory Boxes for all types of occasions, from weddings and births, through to retirements and boxes celebrating the life of a loved one who has passed. They can also can simply based on someone’s hobby or passion. You can see some examples of previous Memory Box commissions in my case studies.
If you're interested in commissioning your own personal, bespoke Memory Box or artwork the first step is to fill out my commission enquiry form here, then we can schedule as chat to discuss your project. I look forward to heating from you.
That is a tricky question to answer as it depends on so many factors, like how big you would like your Memory Box to be. How many items are included and the complexity including them. I would usually advice you allow at least 2 months from filling in the initial enquiry form to completion.
Once we have had our initial chat and the stage 2 questionnaire has been complete I will be able to give a more accurate answer to this.
If you are thinking of commissioning a box as a gift for someone who loves, cycling, for example it is possible for me to collect vintage items for your commission. This would count as an artwork commission rather than a Memory Box, please see my artwork commission page for more information.
I mostly wire or sew keepsakes down, but acetate strips and adhesives are also used to fix items down.
If you have an item that is particularly valuable, fragile or ancient, I can call upon an expert option to ensure the proper conservation methods are used. This would be agreed with you in advance, including any additional cost as per our contract.
If you have a particularly precious item that is extremely fragile or needs repairing I will do this to the best of my ability, however if needed I would consult with a professional conservator if I was concerned. This would be agreed with you in advance, including any additional cost as per our contract.
Due to the depth the items included in these Memory Boxes we are fairly restricted in terms of framing options. The frames I use are made from a FSC-certified wood and come in a choice of walnut and matt black. However, if your items are very shallow, other framing options maybe available to you.
I also use Artglass AR 70 as standard, this is glass which is anti-reflective and will protect your precious items from the damaging effects of UV rays.
All my artworks and Memory Boxes are professionally framed by Simon at Bushwood Framed, Leytonstone.
ARTWORK COMMISSIONS
Yes and No! If you really loved Composition in Red from my Colour Series, for example, I could certainly make another artwork in the same size and colour way. But the vintage and antique items inside would most likely be different.
This is because they are all sourced by me from antique and vintage markets across the UK in most instances I only have one of each of them. If you are looking for me to create an artwork based on a past work, best to get in touch and I will be able to assist you further.
Absolutely, the style of artwork in my Colour Series could definitely be replicated in a new artwork tailored to your brief whether this is a different colour or a different size.
Please note that the vintage and antique items used would be differ, as new ones would be collected specifically for your commission.
Of course – I have 15 years experience as a graphic designer so I'm very comfortable working to a client's brief. And I pride myself on being able to understand and bring to life my client's vision, creating an artworks or a series that works perfectly within their space.
That is a tricky question as it very much depends on your brief. If you required very specific items to be collected then the research time can be fairly lengthy. Also if you require a very large artwork or a series of artwork, this will be a longer process.
As an example if you wanted a piece similar to one of my Colour Series compositions I would allow between 2-6 months for collecting, curating, assembling and framing.
I'm able to provide you with a thorough timeline proposal once your bespoke artwork commission enquiry has been submitted and we have met to discuss.
