Composition in Purple – Unique Vintage Object Artwork

Elegant, mysterious, and quietly powerful, Composition in Purple is a one-of-a-kind, original artwork made from around 70 vintage and antique treasures. This purple-themed assemblage art is a richly layered celebration of colour, femininity and history—spanning tones from soft lilac to deep suffragette purple, with flashes of gold that catch the light.

Assembled over the course of three years, this handmade artwork was one of the most challenging in the Colour Series to complete. Purple is a rare find in the world of vintage collecting, which makes every item here especially precious. Standout details include a miniature ladies’ boudoir safety razor, just 4cm long, tucked inside its original tin—a delicate piece that feels like it belongs in a doll’s house. There’s also an antique committee rosette in iconic purple and white, which evokes the powerful legacy of the suffragette movement. Surrounding these are vintage buttons, enamel pins, sparkling brooches and haberdashery embellishments—carefully chosen for their charm and character.

This piece, like all my work, is made with as little impact on the planet as possible. Every item has been sourced second-hand and saved from landfill, then carefully arranged on stretched artist’s canvas and professionally framed in FSC-certified wood with a matt black finish, glazed with Art Glass AR 70 by Simon at Bushwood Framed, Leytonstone.
